POLITICS

Politics is a dirty and dangerous game,
Whose players pride themselves in their lack of shame.
For in the use of unprintable words do they indulge,
With black money and bribes do their pockets bulge.
Politicians are rich – in wealth do they roll,
Their deeds are often as dark as coal.
They hesitate not in spending taxpayer’s money,
Their public speeches though – are sweeter than honey.
Before the BIG VOTE, they campaign from place to place,
Promising to change the entire country’s face.
They tour the country to win ‘hearts and votes’,
They visit in Raths, tribal areas remote.

Absence of political ideals like Gandhi and Nehru in khadi kurtas & gown,
Has forced the parties to campaign with filmstars of the ‘tinsel town’.
Political parties bribe with liquor and tandoori chicken,
To attract and win votes of the poor, hungry and poverty stricken.
They resort to illegal practices like booth capturing and proxy votes,
Giving contesting tickets to prisoners, in lieu of bundles of notes.
Millions have been recklessly spent on advertising campaigns & party promotion,
Which otherwise, could have been channelized for employment, infrastructure & education.

Once elected, they keep all their promises aside,
Throughout the campaign they had blatantly lied.
Ministers appoint their relatives and personal favorites to high posts of authority,
Leaving the competent and deserving candidates jobless, to perish in poverty.
The money granted for building highways and roads,
Is used for buying personal Mercedes and Fords.
The money kept aside for the alleviation of the poor,
Pays for expenses of Mrs. C.M.’s foreign tour.
They spend huge sums on their extra-tight security and lavish conveyance,
Compensating the paucity through social welfare constraints.
They are the ones solely responsible for ‘State Sponsored Terrorism’,
By instigating and misleading the people with thoughts of communalism & racism.

Case files of scams, corruption and crime have been opened and closed,
But the authenticity of the charges & allegations have never been disclosed.
Many cases like the ‘Bofors’ and ‘Fodder scam’ have made news and faded away,
The police and C.B.I. investigations till date have nothing to say.
Regarding corruption, new records have been set,
We’ve lost all hope of any benefit we’ll get.
Political ideologies and principles have gone down the drain,
People are expecting justice and development just in vain.

But it’s “we, the people of India” who should come forward and choose,
And elect the deserving candidates, the corrupt ones be hanged by the noose.
Only a new breed of educated and honest politicians can revolutionalize the present Indian politics,
Bringing back the glory and essence of ideologies, principles of social welfare, and human ethics.
Then only, dishonesty and corruption will take a back seat,
Politicians, instead of air-conditioned cabins, will work in the scorching heat.

Amidst this corruption, dishonesty and poverty,
We dream of prosperity, affluence and unadulterated food.
Till we come across the next ‘Political Renaissance’,
Let’s be happy and FEEL GOOD!!!!
